Who it's for
The owner or office manager of a business with 2 to 50 people and no IT department, choosing a password manager, backup, a VPN, email security, endpoint protection or phishing training, often because a client, an insurer or an incident said to.
What you get here
- A decision, not a list. Each guide says what to buy for your situation, what to skip, and when the answer is to buy nothing.
- What it costs you. Where a price is published, guides work out the yearly cost at the sizes small offices actually are.
- What to do next. Steps you can follow without an IT department.
- Facts you can check. Every page lists its sources and shows when it was last updated. Anything first-hand on a page is Chris's, and the page says so where it is.
How the site makes money
Sturdy Office earns affiliate commissions: if you buy through some of its links, the vendor or its program pays a commission, and your price is the same. What pays influences which products we feature and in what order. What we state about a product doesn't depend on what it pays. The disclosure has the details.
Who checks it
Chris has been helping small businesses with technical problems since 2009, spot-checks this site and supplies its first-hand notes. Chris runs simulated phishing tests for corporations, sets up SPF, DKIM and DMARC all the time, has set up a password manager for a team, and has managed the Bitdefender GravityZone and ESET consoles. Chris has used Keeper, Proton Pass, NordPass, Dashlane, Bitwarden and 1Password, and backs up to a NAS.
That experience isn't behind every page. Where Chris has no first-hand note on a topic, such as filling in a cyber-insurance form, the page doesn't claim any.
